Freaky Friday in Junior Infants for a fun filled day before the Halloween midterm break! We started the day with a brilliant disco, thanks to the Parents Association! 🕺🎶 We saw some amazing dance moves. After that, we made a witches alphabet stew for our phonics lesson. Next, we played lots of Halloween games together. We made a big spider's web by throwing a ball of wool to each other. We were blindfolded and played pin the nose on the pumpkin and pin the bowtie on the skeleton. We played 'Pass the Pumpkin' (Pass the pumpkin round and round. Listen to the spooky sounds. Oooh, oooh. Will it stop on you? BOO!) Next, we did some pumpkin bowling, which was great fun! (Video will be posted next!) We listen to a story called, 'How Many Sleeps 'til Halloween?' and had a fashion show to show off our brilliant costumes! To calm things down in the afternoon, we had our very own classroom cinema. Teacher surprised us by setting up our chairs in cinema rows, closing all the blinds so it was dark and having a cup of popcorn on our seats for us to enjoy whilst we watched a cartoon of 'Casper, The Friendly Ghost'. Happy Halloween, everyone! 🧙🏾♀️🎃🦴🕷👻
We had a week jam packed with Halloween themed fun activities for Junior Infants! 🎃👻🕷🧙♀️🦴We had lots of Halloween morning and afternoon play. In Maths, we did some colour sorting using haunted houses. We sorted pumpkin pictures by shape. We sorted Halloween objects by size, smallest to the biggest. In Geography, we learned about houses and different types of homes. We labelled parts of the house and built our own houses using blocks and Duplo! 🏠In Science, we did an experiment where we put bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and food colouring into a pumpkin. It caused a chemical reaction where it bubbled and fizzed up and poured out of his mouth! 🎃In P.E, we played a fun game of Witches Tag and of course continued the theme of Halloween in our poetry, songs, art, and Irish vocabulary! We also had a special little birthday girl this week! 🎉🎁☺️ Keep an eye out for our Halloween dress up day photos which will be posted later! 🧙♀️

We did an amazing job of building the pizza restaurant with our Duplo blocks, made beautifully decorated chefs hats and our favourite activity was making our own pizzas using home made playdough and lots of loose parts as toppings. We loved singing our new songs, 'Five Little Pumpkins' and 'Five Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree'. Hello October! Can you believe our little Junior Infants have completed their first month of school?!! And what a great job they have been doing, learning lots of new things, building friendships, and developing their skills of sharing and turn taking! This week, our girls enjoyed singing the nursery rhyme, 'Hey Diddle Diddle' and our Maths song, 'Five Little Monkeys'. They practised counting from 1 to 5, starting with 1 as a whisper and gradually getting louder as they counted to 5. Then they counted backwards from 5, starting at their loud voice and getting to a whisper by zero! 😁 They also did lots of classifying in Maths. We sorted animals into land animals and sea animals. We sorted teddies into big, medium, and small. We sorted buttons by shape. We sorted objects into hard and soft. And we sorted cubes by colour. We also did some fun counting activities during our morning play. 😊 In geography, we learned about night and day. In religion, we learned about creation and how God made day and night, land and sea, plants and animals. We will explore this more next week! We played lots of new fun games in our new P.E. hall! We had lots of free choice play this week and got to play with Teacher's puppets, barbies, musical instruments, magna doodle boards, stampers, stencils, and magnetic tiles! What a fun week! 😁🙌🏻

This week, Junior Infants had lots of fun exploring different play activities to help them learn their 2D shapes! We also had a lot of fun with a variety of autumn themed play activities, the highlight of which was when the girls got to go on a nature walk to collect fallen leaves and make their own 'pat mat' sensory bag with autumn treasures inside! 🍁🍂 Have a great weekend!
Cairde had a fun filled first month back at school. We welcomed a new pupil into our class and we are delighted to have a new friend to play with!
This week, Junior Infants explored making patterns! They did a great job on this topic! We had fun singing the 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' nursery rhyme, and we made our own sheep using cotton wool! Pulling the wool apart was a good workout for our finger muscles! 👍🏻🐑 We learned more about Autumn and enjoyed singing our new song, 'All the Leaves are Falling Down'. youtu.be/uu4ojfxOFXQ?feature=sharedWe used corks to paint and print autumn trees! 🍂 🍁We also turned our home corner from a kitchen into a bedroom and had great fun taking care of our new babies and using the cot and bunk beds! Please tag Junior Infant parents so that they can see our wonderful work! Thank you! 😁
Take a look at some of our beautiful Junior Infant artwork! We have drawn the cutest self portraits with beautifully painted colourful backgrounds. We have used spoons to splat cotton wool balls filled with paint to create colour explosions. We decorated our stars and made lovely homes for our corridor displays. We also painted and printed colourful handprints for a memory to take home soon. 😍 We hope you like them! 🎨
Week 2 round up! Another fun week in Junior Infants! This week, we continued sorting activities in Maths. We worked on sorting by colour but also sorting by shape and sorting by size. 👍🏻 We did lots of practice of our nursery rhyme, 'Humpty Dumpty', and worked collaboratively to sequence the rhyme in the correct order. We also worked together to build Humpty Dumpty's wall from plastic cups and attempted to balance an egg on top! We had lots of fun with this activity. In our play activities, we are exploring the theme of the home. We played with the dolls house for small world play, used home themed playdough mats for sensory play, made homes using lollipop sticks for arts & crafts, built homes using the giant polydrons for construction play and of course used our home corner for role-play! 🏠 We also did another colour experiment using Skittles to make a rainbow! Lots of prediction, observation, and discussion skills developing in our little Junior Infants! 🙌🏻😊

St Brigids Pipe Band is a fantastic local group involving some past pupils. They have provided demonstrations for our pupils I the past and would love to see new members of any age. Contact information on the poster.
Today, our Junior Infants tried their very first experiment! We have been learning our colours and doing lots of colour sorting in our Maths lessons, so today we explored colour mixing. We made predictions about what would happen when the coloured kitchen roll was placed in water. We were amazed when we placed 2 pieces in the water and a brand new colour was created! (red + yellow = orange 🧡/ red + blue = purple 💜/ blue + yellow = green) 💚To try this at home, check out this video from Sprinkle in Learning. 😊👍🏻www.instagram.com/reel/C9NOq5RsMgA/?igsh=MWV1MG5qNmd1dXp0NA==
Thank you to Eva Aspin Ravda at Tesco and all those of you who supported the School through the Blue Token Community Fund in the Long Walk in Tescos.
A dreary Monday morning with the wet weather was brightened up by the arrival of a new little lady to Junior Infants! 😊 Here are photos of some of today's activities. In Maths, we continued working on sorting by size/colour/ shape. You could practise this at home with your daughter using your cutlery. Ask your child to sort the spoons into one group and the forks into another group or sort the big spoons into a group, the small spoons into a group, the big forks into a group and the small forks into another group! This is a great way to learn through play! 😊👍🏻In Geography, we learned about the 4 seasons. We discussed the weather and used playdough to make clouds and sunshine to strengthen our hand and finger muscles before we start learning to write! 😁
There have been lots of busy little bees in Junior Infants this week! 🐝 We have done great work on our fine motor, pre-writing, counting, and sorting skills! We have also had great fun learning new songs in Religion & Maths. We have worked very cooperatively during our Morning Meeting, Circle Time, and Brain Break activities! 😊

On the 11th of June 2024, we celebrated our 2nd ever Cultural Day. After school we had our first ever Cultural Fair and we had an amazing time! There were 8 countries represented - Pakistan, Nigeria, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, Ireland and Slovenia. We had an African stall with cultural outfits and music as well as performances from a wonderful group of pupils who performed a Nigerian dance and Aidan Moore and his daughter, Síofra who played songs on the ukulele. The food and information provided at the stalls was amazing and huge credit goes to the volunteer parents from each country who worked so hard to provide a great experience to all who attended. The event was very well attended and there was a lovely atmosphere in the hall.Thank you once again to our parent volunteers, our parents' association who provided Tea, Coffee and refreshments (they were very busy!) and to all members of the community who contributed on the day (there are too many to mention). Phonics homework getting a bit boring? Why not give this game a try...All you need is 3 pieces of card. Write a letter on each card (on both sides so both players can see it). Call out "Boom, clap" in a variety of ways and when you want to call out a sound. The first person to grab the correct card is the winner! You could use this to revise tricky/sight words or cvc words also! 😁 I think you'll agree from the smiles and giggles, the junior infants loved this game! 😄
💕We had a surprise visit today from 6 girls who made their Holy Communion on Saturday! They told us all about their celebrations. I think you will all agree they look beautiful. 💕
